Jonathan has spent the last two decades practicing as a Purpose Guide, meditation teacher, psychotherapist, activist, and integral mentor. Through 24 years of guiding clients in private practice, he has developed a deep, lived understanding of what is essential to mastering the Purpose Guide craft.

His 13 years working at the Integral Awakening Center brought him into close collaboration with world-renowned teachers including Adyashanti, Bill Plotkin, Joanna Macy, Tim Kelley, Sherri Mitchell, George Leonard, Orland Bishop, Joseph Goldstein, Bayo Akomolafe, and many others.

From these powerful experiences and teachings, Jonathan and his colleagues created a path to becoming a Master Purpose Guide. PGI's promise: to distill in 1–2 years what took 30 years to learn.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked
Questions

About the Training
What is purpose guiding?
Purpose guiding is the art and science of guiding a client to identify and then embody their life purpose. It is distinct from life coaching (which covers all areas of life) and psychotherapy (which addresses mental health). Purpose guides attend specifically to one area: finding and fully living one's life purpose.
How is the class structured?
Small group learning environments are where great guides are born. You will join a small group of approximately five peers who want to learn, grow, and practice together. Expect stimulating lectures, demonstrations, hands-on practice, faculty feedback, extensive personal development, and approximately one book per month of reading.
What is the time commitment?
Expect approximately 12 hours of coursework per week, including readings, written assignments, cohort calls, small group calls, guest teacher sessions, and personal development exercises. The training is rigorous, profound, and thorough — designed to prepare you to enter the profession well-positioned for success.
Do client sessions have to be in-person?
No. You can guide clients in-person or entirely online. The training itself is conducted via Zoom, and the same flexibility applies to your future practice.
Can I drop out after Semester I without penalty?
Yes. Semester I is a complete standalone course. If after completing it you decide that becoming a Purpose Guide is not your path, you may withdraw without any obligation to pay for Semester II — and you will have gained clarity about your own life purpose and the next steps to embody it.
About Career & Income
Can I earn a living as a purpose guide?
Yes — but it takes significant effort. You will need to become proficient in guiding, develop a sound business plan, and execute it well to draw clients in your sweet spot. PGI will actively support you in all three steps. One important note: do not quit your current work until your practice is established. Start-up costs are minimal — a business card, email address, and website.
What do purpose guides charge?
The standard rate is approximately $3,150 for a 6-month guiding program (18 sessions at $175/session). Following PGI's Purpose Octagon blueprint, you would recoup tuition and generate profit after just 2 clients. Some graduates charge considerably more — one routinely charges $7,000 for a 3-month package.
Does PGI support students in getting clients?
Yes, in two ways. First, the optional Entrepreneurial Semester helps you build a solid business plan. Second, upon certification, you are listed in PGI's "Receive Guiding" directory on the website. PGI actively markets this page, pooling resources for greater advertising reach. Directory listing is $150/year, with 100% going toward advertising.
Can I earn university credit?
Yes. You can earn credit toward a Master's or Doctorate degree at Meridian University while completing your Purpose Guide training with PGI. Contact us or visit the PGI website for full details on how the credit transfer works.
Are payment plans available?
Yes, PGI offers installment plans. While scholarships are not currently available, the training has been priced more affordably than comparable programs, with 93 contact hours of world-class training at $4,600 — or $5,200 including the optional Entrepreneurial Semester.
